When asking for a printing quote, these involve a series of different costs. It is good that you understand how it works, in order to reduce costs and end up paying as least as possible. The main factors that determine the printing cost are:
- Printing technology. Digital or offset, screen printing, etc.
- Support. Type and weight of the paper, lightweight cardboard, vinyl, canvas...
- Finishes. Coated glossy or matt, plasticised, embossing, etc.
- Inks. Normal or special: UVI, metallic...
- Colours. White and black, 2 colours, four-colour.
- Handling. Stapled, glued, bound...
- Quantity and delivery time.
It is essential that you understand exactly what you need, what aspects are necessary and which ones aren't. One of the most important decisions is whether you are going to print in digital or not.
If you just need a small quantity of cards, flyers, catalogues or T-shirts, you must obviously choose digital technology. In this case the number of colours is pretty much irrelevant, and the delivery time will be very fast. How many are a few units? Normally up to 1,000 DINA4 pages, or about 5,000 business cards, 3,000 flyers, or 100 10-page catalogues.
If you need to print something urgently, you will have to go for digital. As you can see digital is the technology for individuals and small companies which need small runs...
However, if you want to print large quantities, then you should choose offset. But, this requires more waiting time, you should expect to wait 3 to 4 days, given that the plates or CTP must be made, then the prints must dry, the cutting must be carried out using the die, etc. If you are in a rush, we recommend you go for a small run in digital to have access to a few units sooner.
